I want to share how I spend time with God daily. Spending time with God daily is crucial in your walk in faith. When you are connected and in alignment with God, your life begins to flourish in ways you never imagined! You have more peace, more joy, and essentially become fulfilled in every way. It's not about developing a "religious" routine but about truly having an intimate, up close and personal, relationship with your Creator. Matthew 4:4 says "Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Just like you eat food every day, you should be eating and meditating on Word of God daily. When you don't, you become spiritually fatigued which leaves you subject to endless attacks from the enemy.
You are precious in God's eyes and He desires to be communication with His sons and daughters every moment of every day. So let's take a look at the basic routine.
1.) When you wake up in the mornings, before you check your phone, return those missed calls from the previous night, or do anything, pray. God should be the first one you talk to in the morning. It's an insult to God when we wake up and don't acknowledge Him and go about our "busy" day. He's the One that woke you up in the first place! In the past I would text my boyfriends first thing in the morning and barely say a word to God. No wonder why my life was a hot mess! Haha! Don't do this.
Moreover, you should never be too busy for God. Carve out time before you are actually supposed to get up. For instance, when I first started truly seeking God, I would set my alarm thirty minutes to an hour earlier than the time I planned to wake up and spend it with God and I would commit to it.
"But seek FIRST the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Matthew 6:33
2.) Set the atmosphere. Put on your favorite worship music. Light candles. Open the curtains and let the sun light come through. Do whatever you need to do to set the atmosphere for your quiet time with God. If your place is too crowded try having this time in the bathroom. I know it may sound weird but I had plenty of days where I had no privacy and had to spend this time in my bathroom. If this is not an option, take a walk. I love getting up and walking in the mornings with God. I bring my headphones and bring my bible and try to find a quiet place to sit like a park or bench. I especially love going to the lakefront/beach with God when it's warm.
3.) Open your bible. This is a MUST. Prior to 2011, I would never read the bible. It would sit on the shelf and collect dust! My life was a hot mess and I knew it so I didn't want to be corrected by the Word of God. I didn't want to be convicted by my sin because I wasn't ready to give it up. However it wasn't until June, 19, 2011 that I fully surrendered my life to Christ that I began to read and study His Word and my life has never been the same since. I instantly gained clarity, peace, wisdom, insight on the true power of God and began to receive glorious revelation after revelation. The Word of God wrecked me in the best way possible.
The Word of your God is your sword and is your ONLY weapon to fight in this world with.
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Hebrews 4:12
When you begin reading, set certain Scriptures apart that you can meditate on for the day. Murmur them to yourself throughout the day. I personally love to make note cards and write on sticky notes to meditate on His Word. I also always carry my bible with me in my purse. Your bible app is cool, but you need an actual bible. If you need to purchase one, shop here. We will also be adding some to our online store soon!
"How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers." Psalm 1:1-3
4.) Be still. Digest what you just read and continue in prayer. After settling, you should be fulfilled enough to go and conquer the day!
5.) Do this before bed as well. This not only goes for when I wake up in the morning, but before I go to bed as well and throughout the day.
Happy quiet time with God. Love you dearly!
