The evidence of your trust in God is in your ability and willingness to wait on Him. One of the toughest challenges many believers face in their walk in faith is waiting on God. We want everything instantly. However the fact is, the things we get quick often do not last and lead us into doing things that later fill us with regret and shame.
"For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay." Habakkuk 2:3
God's plans for your life are not delayed. You are not behind schedule even when society, culture, friends and even family may bully you into feeling like it. What God has for you, is reserved just for you and there is an appointed time for you to receive it. Every second of your life is accounted for. Every breath you have taken up until this very moment is documented in heaven's record of your life. Your life is not a book God simply skims through. It is a book that He Himself has handwritten with great care, concern, insight, detail, intentionality, patience and love. God has already written the story of your life. Yet will you trust Him as He guides you through every chapter and season of your life even when it feels like He is quiet and seemingly absent? Even when things are tough and you feel like He has abandoned you?
"How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You." Psalm 138:18
God's daily thoughts toward you are more than all the grains of sand on the face of the earth. God, how mindful You are of us!
You are constantly in God's thoughts and on His mind. How great is God's love for us for Him to think of us in this way and this often? If there is ever a moment when you feel like God has forgotten about you, be confident in the fact that His thoughts are endless toward you and that He is always at work on your behalf.
When you don't wait on God, you miss out on many of the blessings He has in store for you. Many of us have storehouses full of things that God wants to give to us, but are too busy trying to do things our own way, at our own time and sadly miss out on them.
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." Proverbs 3:5
Fear, impatience, confusion & anxiety will talk you of the blessings that await you during the waiting process. While Christ has come to bring total peace, clarity, joy and complete rest even in the midst of the wait.
Learning how to wait on God begins with truly spending and making time for Him. When you are in a relationship with a person, the more time you spend with them, the more you begin to trust them and ultimately fall deeper in love with them. It's the same with God. When you wholeheartedly trust God, waiting on God becomes delightful because you are confident that His timing is the best timing. You should desire to wait on God because you trust in His promises and the fact that He has good plans for your life, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
Moreover, prayer is critical. It is your single lifeline to heaven. A prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian. We will not begin to have power over our present circumstances until we develop a healthy, authentic and consistent prayer life. This is the only way we can effectively communicate with our Heavenly Father and express our daily concerns and worries to Him. Praying during times of waiting shifts your focus from self - to God, His goodness and glorious future plans for us.
Don't let this world's concerns rattle you and stress you out. Don't let people assign there definition of how your life's timeline ought to look, to your God-given destiny. God's timing is perfect. It always has been and always will. God began a good work in your life and He will surely complete it. (Phil. 1:6)
Even when the seas appear to rage in our lives, we must hold on to this one fact- "For we live by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7). As children of God, we walk according to the leading of the Holy Spirit who is our helper and not the leading of the world. With God's Word, we can renew our minds and hearts daily knowing that each day is a day closer to the desires of our heart being answered and becoming a reality.
So whatever opportunity you are waiting on, wait for God to give you the green light. Avoid the heartache that follows hastiness and wait for the blessing that comes with patience. If God said it, He will do it. God is perfect and has a perfect plan for all those who truly love Him and trust Him.
"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
Pray this prayer out loud:
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for your unchanging and unfailing love for me. Today, I choose to walk by faith and not by sight. Teach me to be patient and trust You wholeheartedly. I know you will never leave nor forsake me. I know your love and kindness is everlasting. In your eyes I am precious and you love me. God I ask that you lift every burden, fear, anxiety and every stress from me right now and allow your peace to totally wash over me. I repent for everything I have done (name these things). Renew me God, refresh me and give me clarity on how I am to maneuver through this week. By your grace from this moment forward I will walk in total freedom, I will walk in total peace and trust your perfect timing. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
